Morning Matcha Smoothie

It’s summer, the warm weather is (finally) here and that means that our bodies naturally start craving lighter and cooler foods, starting with breakfast. I have to admit, oatmeal is one of my all-time favourite breakfast meals, at anytime of the year. As someone who struggles with food sensitivities, I find that oats are very easy for me to digest, are basically a blank slate when it comes to toppings, and have that ‘hug-in-a-bowl’ type of feeling, especially during the colder, winter months. That said, there are times in the dead of summer that even I want to ditch the oats for a lighter breakfast, and take advantage of all the delicious fruits that are in season this time of year. Enter this powerhouse Morning Matcha Smoothie.


As a huge matcha latte lover (check out the ‘highlights’ section of my Instagram to see a step-by-step of my go-to recipe), I wanted to incorporate the awesomeness that is matcha, with the deliciousness that is a refreshing breakfast smoothie. The green tea matcha offers an incredible antioxidant fuelled energy boost, the fresh ginger provides a little ‘zing’ in the morning, and helps fight inflammation, coconut water is fantastic for hydration, spinach is rich in iron, blueberries provide additional antioxidants and the added collagen supports skin and joint health. In a nutshell, this smoothie provides some serious nutrition in the morning, all before your first email. You badass, you.
